本種はヨーロッパから日本に広く分布し、北米の一部から記録されている。オスは全体的に淡色だが、メスは淡褐色から暗褐色まで様々である。寄主範囲が非常に広く、様々な植物に見られる。農業害虫としても知られ、トスポウイルスを媒介する。ミカンキイロアザミウマに似るが、複眼後方第4刺毛が長くないこと、後胸背楯板に鐘状感覚器を欠くことで識別できる。また、日本に分布しないF. schultzei (Trybom)にも一見似るが、schultzeiは単眼間刺毛が後方単眼の間にあること、腹部第8背板後縁の櫛歯状突起が中央部にないことで識別できる。

This species is widely distributed from Europa to Japan and a part of Noth America. Male is largely pale but female is pale to dark brown. It is polyphagous and breeds on many kinds of plant species. It is well known as a pest of the crops as well as a vector of orthotospovirus. It can be distinguished from F. ocidentalis by the head with postocular setae S4 short, and the metascutum without campaniform sensilla. F. schultzei (Trybom) is also similar to intonsa but it can be distinguished by the head with interocellar setae situated between hind ocelli and the abdominal tergite VIII without posteromarginal comb medially.
